5 years together

006

I can hardly believe that 5 years have gone by since Naomi joined our family.   Sometimes it seems like just yesterday and other times it is hard to remember life before her.  Here is what I wrote about this day 5 years ago.

It seems that we’ve been enjoying a lot of Chinese food lately but we decided to go for dim sum again today.  Naomi really wanted to wear one of her Chinese dresses and she wanted dumplings!

I remember buying this dress for her in China at the silk market.  I could barely fathom that my little 9 month old baby was ever going to fit into a size 8 dress (the sizing is a bit different).  She was very happy to be wearing this beautiful silky dress today.

Happy 5th adoption day Naomi!  We are so thankful that you are a part of our family.  ♥

New York City

After spending several days in Lake George, we continued on down the I87 South to New York City.  We only stayed one night in the Big Apple but boy did we make the most of it! We stayed at the Best Western Seaport Inn which was great and well located - close to Canal street in Chinatown.  We did really well there …  handbags, watches, sunglasses … heh.

Next we took the subway up into midtown and visited Central Park.  The kids had a blast at FAO Schwartz on the Big Piano.  We walked down 5th Avenue and gawked at all the beautiful designer stores.  We stood in Times Square (they were filming a movie!)  We visited the giant Toys R Us in Times Square – the one with the ferris wheel inside.  Naomi was in Barbie heaven there so we let her pick out a new Barbie (she chose ice-skating Barbie over the Statue of Liberty Barbie – it was a hard decision).   Suddenly the sky turned black and it was about to pour so we quickly ran into Ruby Foo’s for dinner.  After a quick dinner we headed back to the hotel for some much needed sleep.

Bright and early the next morning we were off again, headed for the ferry to take us to see the Statue of Liberty.  Naomi made us laugh when we were on the boat she said, “I can’t wait to get off this boat and hug her”.  I don’t think she realized quite how big of a statue “she” was going to be up close.  On the walk back from the ferry we saw Battery Park, Wall Street and a bit of SoHo.

We made it back to the hotel just in time for check out but realized we still had 2 hours of parking so we revisited Canal Street for a few last treasures and dim sum for lunch.

As I am writing this we are in the car headed north on the I87.  We are about to cross into Canada again.  We had a great week of fun and though I am sad to see it come to an end, I am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed.

Lake George

Here are a few pictures from our trip to Lake George / Glen Falls, NY.   We were there for four nights and had a blast.  We spent 3 days playing at the Great Escape (6 flags) theme park and water park.  We also met up with some friends, went to a drive-in movie (Ice age 4 and Spiderman), went out for nice dinners, shopped at the outlet malls, ate ice cream at Martha’s 3 times and walked a whole lot!

Summer break – week 3 review

Another busy week of fun and relaxation was on the menu

001

A glimpse of where I spend a good part of my day - in the shade but with a clear view of the kiddos in the pool …

033

This week Francis did a 1/2 day hockey camp so that kept him busy in the afternoons.  Both kids also started swimming lessons at the community pool.

Um, let see … what else did we do?  Oh yes, we made a piñata (papier maché on a balloon then covered with crepe streamers).  Voila:

028

We also made some yummy banana chocolate chip muffins …

Our garden produced it’s first tomatoes and cucumbers

Last night we went to a restaurant on the waterfront for diner …
