Niagara Falls

Ok, so I am back posting here, trying to squeeze in a post and some pictures of Niagara Falls, Ontario.

I always forget how tacky Niagara Falls is – it is part of the charm thought.  So much to see …

This was called “Crystal Caves” and was just a maze of mirrors – Francis loved it but it kind of freaked Naomi out a bit.

Whoa, what is up with this house?

Mmmm … treats …. watch out for King Kong!

We decided to drive back through the US this time which allowed us to avoid the TO traffic.

This is the beautiful rainbow we saw on the drive home.  We could actually see the entire arc from one end to the other … no sight of the pot-o-gold though …

Everyone loves Marineland!

On Monday morning we headed off in the direction of Niagara Falls, Ontario.  It's about and hour and a half from where my aunt and uncle live.

Naomi has been asking to go to Marineland for 2 years now – thanks in part to the annoying commercial that plays on TV every 5 seconds.  She loves whales, dolphins, sharks and all those weird things that live at the bottom of the ocean.  We all wanted to see the Beluga whales so we headed off in the direction of Friendship cove after catching the last half of King Waldorf’s show (we went back and watched it in it’s entirety an hour later).

Mini family vacay

So continuing from my previous post  … the kids only had a half day on the last day of school so while they were off saying goodbye to their friends and teachers, I was packing up the car for a road trip.  At noon we picked the kids up and headed west.  Francis had a baseball tournament in the Richmond Hill area of Toronto.  We made it in about 6 hours with time to spare until the 8pm game.  Naomi and I decided to take it easy at the hotel – the Marriott in Markham – which was lovely.

Unfortunately, the Braves did not do too well in their baseball tournament – losing all 3 games.  Too bad.  So we headed North (west) to visit my aunt and uncle.  They live in a lovely rural area surrounded by farms.  We checked out the nearby town of Erin which hosts a multitude of quaint little shops.  Here the boys have just scarfed down doughnuts from the bakery.

On Sunday, Francis decided to go for a joyride on the lawnmower cut the grass using the ride-on lawnmower.  He didn’t enjoy it at all.

The rest of us helped build a new fire pit for so that we have a fire and roast marshmallows that evening.

After a yummy dinner of homemade ribs and fresh corn, it was time for the fire.  There was much talking, singing, marshmallow burning roasting, fire poking and general silliness all around.  We even had some visitors.  One of the human kind (neighbor) and several of the bovine kind.  “moooooo …”

We all had a great time.  The kids are still talking about the “campfire” and the cows … lol.
