After spending several days in Lake George, we continued on down the I87 South to New York City. We only stayed one night in the Big Apple but boy did we make the most of it! We stayed at the Best Western Seaport Inn which was great and well located - close to Canal street in Chinatown. We did really well there … handbags, watches, sunglasses … heh.
Next we took the subway up into midtown and visited Central Park. The kids had a blast at FAO Schwartz on the Big Piano. We walked down 5th Avenue and gawked at all the beautiful designer stores. We stood in Times Square (they were filming a movie!) We visited the giant Toys R Us in Times Square – the one with the ferris wheel inside. Naomi was in Barbie heaven there so we let her pick out a new Barbie (she chose ice-skating Barbie over the Statue of Liberty Barbie – it was a hard decision). Suddenly the sky turned black and it was about to pour so we quickly ran into Ruby Foo’s for dinner. After a quick dinner we headed back to the hotel for some much needed sleep.
Bright and early the next morning we were off again, headed for the ferry to take us to see the Statue of Liberty. Naomi made us laugh when we were on the boat she said, “I can’t wait to get off this boat and hug her”. I don’t think she realized quite how big of a statue “she” was going to be up close. On the walk back from the ferry we saw Battery Park, Wall Street and a bit of SoHo.
We made it back to the hotel just in time for check out but realized we still had 2 hours of parking so we revisited Canal Street for a few last treasures and dim sum for lunch.
As I am writing this we are in the car headed north on the I87. We are about to cross into Canada again. We had a great week of fun and though I am sad to see it come to an end, I am looking forward to sleeping in my own bed.
