Francis turns 7!

Today marks both Francis' 7th birthday and Naomi's 6 month as part of our family!

On Sunday Francis had a Star Wars themed birthday party. There were 12 6-7 year olds in attendance - wow, you cannot imagine the insanity!! I think all the kids had a blast though so it was all worth it. Luckily we have a couple of wonderful insane friends (Doris and Dan) who offered to help out. We just couldn't have managed without them! Click here for a few pictures of the big event.

Here are some pictures of Francis this morning and the cupcakes I made for his class (click to enlarge).

It's so hard to believe that Naomi had been with us for 6 months now. There are days where I feel like I have known her forever and days where she still feels "new". Here are a few before and after pictures;

15 months!

Wow, Naomi is 15 months old today! she is no longer the 9 month old baby we brought home. She has really changed and blossomed. Every day we see more and more of her personality shine through. If I were to describe her, I would say that she is a very active, smiling, affectionate sweet baby with a dash of drama queen. She gets that last part from me (grin).

I get a lot of comments that she is tall for her age - she's about 30" now and weighs 22 lbs. She's long and lean - surprisingly lean for the amount of food she eats! She has an enormous appetite and there is not much that she doesn't like. Considering that she only has 6 teeth she does really well with solid food and has been not had purees since she was 11 months. Her favorite foods are noodles, eggs, fish, broccoli and any type of fruit.

She is starting to talk a lot too - even if it is toddler language that only we understand (some are French versions of words as we speak both). So far she says; mama, daddy, sissis (for Francis), kitty, doggy, up, down, yes, oh yeah, bebe, bus, hi (this is by far the most used word), bye-bye, dodo, uh-oh, yum-yum and shhhhhhhhhh!!! :o)

Each day with Naomi is an adventure! I just love to see what she's going to do next!

Naomi becomes a Canadian Citizen!!

A few days ago I received Naomi's Canadian citizenship certificate and card. Usually this can take up to a year to receive but we called and asked for it to be expedited as we have our upcoming trip to the States in March. I was starting to worry that we were going to have apply for a travel visa! Anyways, I'm very happy we have it now. The certificate is beautiful with the Canadian coat of arms and her name at the top. We have one for Francis too and I was thinking that maybe I'd pick up some simple frames and hang them. I want my kids to appreciate the cultures from where they were born but I also want them to be proud to be Canadian. I certainly am.

Happy New Year!!

I haven't posted in such a long time, I don't know where to start! We had a lovely Christmas, full of toys, presents, food and family - just the way I like it. My house now looks like a toy store! We have been really enjoying being home together. We've been to movies, played in the snow, went tobogganing, skating, played hockey, shopped, visited friends, went to the see the Nutcracker ballet, gone for drives in our new SUV (a Mitsubishi Outlander), went for walks downtown, ordered a new swimming pool, had friends from out of town over, went out to restaurants, played with new toys, read books, relaxed and just enjoyed the time off.

Monday will bring an end to the holidays, it's back to school for Francis and back to work for Stephan, and back to a routine for Naomi and me. Part of me is dreading it and part of me is looking forward to it.

There is something very exciting about a new year. It's a clean slate. About an hour ago I set up the new calendar - it's a sort of family organizer kind that helps you keep track of each person's activities. I was going through the old calendar and filling in all the birthdays in the new one. I was noticing what a great year 2007 was for our family, obviously Naomi joining our family was the biggest change but there are birthdays and other events also. As I filled in Francis' 7th birthday, Naomi's 2nd birthday, our 10th wedding anniversary and our trip to Hawaii - I just knew that 2008 will be a very exciting and special year.

Wishing you all much happiness for 2008!!!
