FREAKING OUT

Well, it appears that I was being a little presumptuous in thinking that we were going to be in for this batch. Everything I have heard so far pointed to a large(ish) batch getting into mid-November LID's.

Hours ago, someone with a November 9th LID was told they didn't make the cut. Now, several people with a November 8th LID were told that they did not the cut. Yikes.

SO, now what?

Are we in or not?

The suspense is killing me!!

It's Sunday evening and I am hoping that we will hear some news within the next couple of days.

I thought it would be fun to play a little guessing game in the meantime. Try and guess:

1. Referral date
2. Province
3. Birthdate

I look forward to reading all your guesses!!

Matching has begun!

Well RQ has stated that the matching has begun at the CCAA!! This means that someone is pouring over our file trying to match us to our daughter right about now! It is so exciting I can just about scream. It has become next to impossible for me to focus on anything else right now!! For those of you not familiar with the CCAA's matching process, you can read all about it here.
This is a picture of The Matching Room in China. Check out all those files!

Is it tomorrow yet?

Ever had one of those days where everything goes wrong and you wished you never got out of bed?

Montreal Bloggy Summit

Wow, what an incredible weekend!! I had to absorb it before I could get to blogging about it.
Were invited to Doris and Dan’s for a BBQ on Saturday evening where we met Catherine, Mark and Michelle and Kathy and Joel for the first time. They are all really warm and friendly people and we all seemed to get along smashingly! The food was great, the drinks were fantastic! The pièce de résistance was the chocolate fountain! I am sure there are incriminating pictures of me and a chocolate covered strawberry out there …
The next day we met up to tour Chinatown – we were a bit late in arriving but Francis managed to buy a wooden snake and I bought him a necklace with the character for love or “Ai” in Mandarin – he said that it was for his mei-mei (little sister).
Next it was off to Duns for smoked meat sandwiches. You just can’t come to Montreal and not have smoked meat! Catherine was very brave and also tried the “poutine” (fries with curd cheese and gravy – YUMM-O!).
With full bellies we made our way down to the old port of Montréal. Past all the bridal parties and the street performers, we found the marina and checked it out. We continued walking along the small streets and ended our day of sightseeing at Notre Dame Cathedral – a must see. As we came out of the church it started to rain so off we all ran to find our cars or hit “Le Metro” (the subway). Again we made our way back to Doris and Dan’s for an Asian feast. Martinis and salad and dumplings … oh my! At the end of the evening it was hard to say goodbye – I could have stayed and talked with them for many more hours!!
Thanks you so much for driving down and spending your weekend with all of us. We now have 5 new friends and 3 blogs to add to the favourites list!! I look forward to reading all about your journey’s and hope to visit you all next time I am in Toronto.
And thank to the dynamic duo team of Doris and Dan who made it all happen!

Strollers and Carriers

So I have been giving a lot of thought to traveling to China during the summer. I want to ensure that we all stay as comfortable as possible. I was ready to bring my (el cheapo) umbrella stroller to China, but Karen, my adoption coach advised me to bring a "good" stroller. She said that we take tour buses everywhere and that all the strollers fit nicely in the bottom of the buses. She said to make sure to have a stroller that reclines for naps and that you can store items and purchases. I was going to wait until I got back to order a stroller but now I am hooked on the Maclaren. I have heard from 4 people who say that they LOVE theirs. I noticed that they carry the Maclaren Triumph at Toys R Us for under $200 CDN but I suppose that it can be found online cheaper. I love that fact that it is so light and it features "the 5 second fold". Does anyone have a recommendation of what style they like best? There's the Quest, Techno, the Triumph ...I'm not sure I understand the difference! I am just waiting for my referral to order .. just in case she's a bit older or in the off chance we are referred twins (OK, don't freak-out, we put on name for twins but we were told that it was extremely, extremely, extremely unlikely).

Another thing that I want is a good carrier. I have looked at many and the one I like best is called a Mei Tei. It's made of 100 %cotton and can be worn on the front, back or hip. I found this FANTASTIC website called BabyHawk that custom makes these carriers. You choose the fabric and strap color and they whip it up - they can even make it reversible for $10 extra! pretty cool hunh? I keep changing my mind, but for now I've decided on these 2 prints (reversible) with black straps.

pictures 'n stuff

Last weekend I picked up this sweet jogger stroller at a garage sale for $60! It'll be perfect for strolls in the neighborhood - in any weather. I still want a "regular" stroller for trips and for shopping etc... I am considering a few different ones but I seem to keep coming back to the MacLaren. Anyone have the Maclaren and have an opinion on it?

One of my mother's day's gifts was this dragon garden ornament. We have affectionately nicknamed him Moo-shoo (Like the dragon in Mulan).

I just thought that this was a great spring picture of Francis. :)

Blogger Summit

Finally, a Blogger Summit in Montreal! I am really looking forward to meeting Catherine, Kathy & Joel and Mark & Michelle! Also attending will be friends Elisa & family and the lovely and talented hostess, Doris and her hubby Dan. I am really looking forward to the weekend and getting to know all these wonderful people!!

p.s. did anyone read that rumor on RQ about possibly seeing the 20's in the next referral batch? Wouldn't that be amazing??? I still can't believe we're next!! Is it the end of the month yet??

18 months

It's been a year and a half since our file was logged in at the CCAA in China. Wow. 12 months beyond what we were originally told. I am really hoping that we will get our referral before the 19th month!! I have waited long enough - I want my baby now! :o)

The good, the bad and the prezzies!

OK so I was MIA again for a week there - my bad. I actually had a stomach flu for most of the week and I was alone to take care of Francis as Stephan was traveling all week! It was a tough week. I also managed to scratch my eye somehow!!

I had a very busy weekend! On Friday night we went to a dinner set up to thank all the hockey coach volunteers. It was fancy schmancy with a 5-course meal, a band and comedian, Joey Elias as the MC. It was a really nice thank you to all the parent volunteers.

On Saturday night I went to the MNO (Mom's night out) dinner for our adoption group. Having people come up to me saying; "you're next" and "you must be so excited!" got me all hyped-up!! It's wonderful to know that our turn is coming!! At the dinner Elisa surprised me with some belated birthday prezzies!! An adorable "Got Congee?" bib (okay I have to explain this one for the non-adoptive readers ... ) You know the slogan, "Got Milk?" well, congee is "milk" for babies in China. It's actually just really overcooked watery rice. Anyhoo ... she also MADE me 2 lovely bracelets - it's a mother/daughter set! All together now ... awwwwww cute!!! she also gave me some lovely Fruits & Passions stuff. I'm going to smell very nice!! Thank you Elisa for your thoughtfulness - you are such an amazing friend!

It is Sunday evening now and we just came back from a baptism. I was very honored to be the Godmother - or Nouna as they say in Greek. My sweet little Godson, Matthias is the son of wonderful friends Chantal and Nestor. We have been planning this for a while and it was so nice to see it all come together. It was a very happy celebration with family, friends, great food and a happy baby. What more could we ask for? When we got home we realized that we didn't get any pictures of me and Stephan together (since Stephan was the photographer). So I reapplied some lipstick and Francis took our picture (that is why we look like giants and it's a bit out of focus - it was taken from a 6 year-old's angle :o)). So here we are looking all glam for a change ....

Have a great week everyone!!
