I'm back. Just in time for referral news! It seems that referrals were mailed from China last night while we were sleeping. There is almost no speculation about what the cut off is this time so we will just have to wait and see (all this waiting is getting old). By Monday or Tuesday we should know if we made it into this batch or not. If we are not in this time we will be for sure in the next batch. It's all good.

An FYI for my family and friends: When we get "The Call" we will find out only some importants facts such as her name, date of birth, the province/orphanage she is in, etc. We will not get pictures or the medical report until a week or so after. The reason for this is that our agency will translate all the information from Mandarin to French before sending it to us. Each agency handles this in their own way.

Bon Voyage?? NOT!

Tomorrow morning I leave for a 3 day business trip. Sigh. Of all the times to have to go, this just sucks donkey’s balls. Even thought it is unlikely that we will get our referral this week … there is a slim chance. And I do not want to hear about it stuck on a trade-show floor! Either way, I am going to be either thrilled or seriously bummed and I’d rather it be with my friends and family!

On the good news front I read somewhere that there is a good chance that the next batch will be mailed this week and that next months batch will likely be at the end of April (instead of beginning of May) as the CCAA prepares for the festival in May (I do not know what festival this is).

Welcome Spring!

Happy first day of spring!
there is something about the start of spring that makes the world look fresh and renewed. Even though we will not see green grass, flowers and leaves for at least another month, I feel like winter is finally over. I am finally shaking the blahs and looking forward to exciting times and big changes that are coming in the months ahead.

St-Patty's Day

Friday, March 16, 2007

I feel blah. I can't shake it. It's physical and emotional. It may have something to do with the following:
1) Francis is sick - coughing like a maniac w/fever
2) Time change regarding daylight savings is NOT helping
3) I'm not sleeping (see #1 for reason)
4) When I do sleep I have VERY weird dreams
5) I feel like I'm getting sick (see #1 for reason)
6) I'm bored at work, can focus, mind wandering
7) I can't stop wondering if we are next or not (RQ's projection isn't helping)

8) There is 25cm of snow on it's way - so depressing after the beautiful spring-like weather we've been having

I almost finished one curtain pannel - it's up but with a pinned hem. I can't decide if I like the way it looks or not. I'd go take a picture but I am not in the mood.

What's a girl to do?

What does one do when obsessing about how far the CCAA will get in the next batch?? When you feel like for sure you're IN one moment and then you you think you're OUT the next? When referral math runs through your brain 24/7??

YOU TAKE ON A PROJECT, that's what you do.

Can you guess what I am doing tonight??

marshmallow sled

Yesterday after work I had to go on a shopping frenzy to buy a sled for Francis because he broke his, and he was planning to go sledding today. Seeing that it is the end of the winter season, all I could find was the inflatable variety. Luckily it was on sale for about $5 so I figured it was better than nothing so I bought it and took it home. It took Stephan over and hour to blow up with the car pump because it is so huge. Then we noticed that it would NOT fit into my car so he tied it to the ski rack on the roof of my car. (Hence the photo).
When Francis got up he asked about the sled so I told him to go look on the car. He came back with big eyes saying"that thing is huge, daddy must have no air left in him!" (lol!). Well, it certainly made for an interresting drive.

Yesterday marked the 16th month of waiting for our daughter. We celebrated the day with a family ski trip!! Today it's back to work and back to reality! :o)

Monday, March 05, 2007

Well, it appears that the CCAA has finished matching files for those registered on or before October 24th. Sigh. 11 days.

14 days to our LID of November 7, 2005. Will we make it in the next bactch??? I think not.

...must find chocolate ....and Kleenex (sniff)

carrier questions

It certainly looks like we will be in China at some point over the hot summer. I have been told that summer in Beijing is unbearable with the heat and the smog - ugg!! I have been thinking about how to make the trip more enjoyable.

When I start purchasing summer clothes for my family I will be looking for 100% cotton and "wicking" fabrics - that we see in sports stores. The whole conversation brings me to baby carriers.

I have no idea how heavy Naomi will be, but I do like the idea of a carrier. First, there will be times where a stroller will be useless - like climbing the Great Wall for example. Second, because it promotes bonding. Third, because after a few days of carrying Francis around, my back, arms and wrists were so cramped I could barely lift a coffee mug.

About a year ago, I purchased this Infantino Tech Rider carrier at Winners for about $30. I thought it looked good - padded shoulder rests and lumbar support. I was having a good look at it recently and it looks very complicated as well as all made out of nylon and other non-natural fabrics. I keep thinking that Naomi and I will both die of heat in this thing - no??

I really like the idea of a sling - a nice breathable cotton one would be fantastic. Since I have never used one, does anyone who has BTDT have any ideas, suggestions, recommendations? I wonder if I can make one myself? I could use some really pretty fabric. I really like the one pictured below. It's called a Jetson Sateen Ring Sling by ZoloWear. Let me rephrase - I like the concept and the way it looks - I have no idea how it would feel to wear this for a couple of hours.

this and that

Well, we've got more snow! 30 cm. I hear that it's going to be +3 tomorrow, so hopefully some of it will melt away! Not too much though because on Wednesday we are going skiing - family ski day on our 16th (no, way! Shuuuuut-uuuup!) LID-aversary!! Yee-haw!

In Rumor news, the latest word is that referrals are thought to be on the way! It's expected that the 16th is included, but the 27th is not. I have no idea what that means for the days between the 16th and the 26th. I guess we'll just have to WAIT and see (note sarcasm)!!

Ok, so I just found these on my digital ... from CNY brunch. One nerdy golden pig and some delish dumplings!
Check out this fantastic photo of Elisa and Thomas from Fortune Cookie Monsters!
have also been making an attempt at working on my 100 wishes quilt. At the moment I am working on resizing all the squares to 7"x7" and then I will get to the sewing!! My plan it to do the top myself and then ship the whole kit to my Aunt Josee to finish. She and my mom are both fantastic quilters. My mom will be helping me sew up all of Naomi's bedroom linens. We're making a duvet cover, a bedskirt, curtains, a crib skirt, crib pads and possibly something to go up on the canopy. To check out her amazing handiwork, click here!
