Childhood pictures

Inspired by Connie and Doris and others, I finally got around to scanning some pictures of myself as a child.

I'm probably about 3- 4 years old here - wow, check out the lovely brown shag carpet ... definately 1974-ish.

I must be about 2 or 3 years old here

And about 5 or 6 years old here - man I remember that dress like it was yesterday. My mother made it - it was black courduroy with pink roses *sigh* I think I wore it until I was 10!

Weird tag

So Connie put out a challenge to take pictures of weird stuff in you home. Well, I think this iguana vase takes the cake for being both weird and fugly. I'm embarassed to say that I bought this on a trip to Mexico about 12 years ago. I actually carried the box on the plane because I was afraid it might break ... lol!!

Francis Birthday Weekend Extravaganza

Today is Francis' 6th birthday. Where does the time go? Yesterday he was a baby and today he is six. wow.

Ok, so the birthday weekend extravaganza started with dinner out on Friday night - his choice - La Cage au Sports (sports memorabilia - 20+ TVs playing sports).

Saturday night the family came over for a birthday dinner and cake of course!

On Sunday he had a "Pirate" party with 11 kids. We all had a blast and some of the kids told me it was the best party they ever went to ... awww...shucks!!

Today is his actual birthday so I made cupcakes for his class - 18 little cupcakes with the Canadians logo - ok so the light blue is supposed to be navy and the fuchsia is supposed to be red, but you get the idea!

Book Tag!
I have been tagged by Doris for this.
Here's what you do:
Find a book near you.Go to page 123 in that book.Write down 6-8 lines from that book.Tag 3 people!

Ok, so here goes.
I am currently reading The Bookseller of Kabul written by Asne Seierstad. My thoughtful husband picked this up for me and thought I'd like it.
Page 123: (it's the end of the chapter so I am writing all from that page) four children, two who diedand two who lived. But she doesn't think of that now. Her tea is cold and she is cold. She hides the almonds under her mattress and wants someone to fetch her wollen shawl.
"Leila," she calls. Laila gets up from the pots.
Ok, so I'm tagging Lisa, Julie W (if you can find the time..) and Lisa.

What I've been up to ...

Welcome to the basement playroom! It's a huge room with lovely (ick) red carpet, wood paneling, fake brick ... you get the picture. Well, on a low budget I decided to spice it up by giving it a fresh paint job. All the wood paneling got updated to a nice turquoise green and all the plaster got a fresh coat of white. These doors you see were made of brown paneling and were way UGLY! I thought I'd add a bit of pizazz with zebra stripes. The table and chairs were hand painted by my mom about 4 years ago - now they finally have a room to match!

cupcake anyone??

So my son is getting ready for his 6th birthday and we were told that we could bring in cupcakes for the entire class. So, being the "Martha" that I am, I was looking online for some fun party cupcake ideas when I came across this: http:// A note to the weak or those who recently swore-off sugar as their New Year's resolution: this is dangerous stuff (you've been warned!).

I just noticed that my blog counter has passed the 10,000 mark! Whooohoo!!

I am getting better at using these neat little blog accessories. My friend Doris just told me about Bloglines (yes, I live under a rock). Anyhoo ... what a great tool! Basically, you enter in all the blog addresses that you visit and it keeps track of who has updated their site!! Neato schmeeto!

Breaking up is hard to do

Dear Gym,
I'm sorry that things have not worked out between us in the past. Perhaps I was naive when I took you home - I really thought you would help me to be a better, stronger person. I thought we were going to spend so much time together - and we did, at the beginning but then we just started to find excuses not to be together. You used to make me so hot and steamy but now I can barely look at you. I guess we just have to face the fact that sometimes these types of relationships just don't work out. I guess what I am trying to say is that it's over.

14 months down!

So today marks the 14th month since our file was logged in to the CCAA. For the very first time I actually feel like I am starting to see a very faint light at the end of this long tunnel. I am quite optomistic that we will see a referral in about 3-4 months and in China for about May or June!

It sure would work out nicely this way as I will get to spend the summer at home with both Naomi and Francis. I am starting to daydream about pushing a stroller to the park under the warm summer sun, Francis laughing with his friends, Naomi decked out in an adorable sundress .... ahhhhh ...

The holidays are over ..

I can't believe I haven't written in so long! I have to say that it was so nice to have a break from the whole adoption roller-coaster. I even missed the announcement of the latest referrals!! I just spent 2 hours checking out my favorite blogs and now I am off to check 200 + emails on my Yahoo account. *sigh*

Anyone care to share their New Year's resolution?? I still haven't decided what mine should be.
