Ok, so the news is out. The CCAA has matched files up to (and including) September 8, 2005. This means that they are still on the 2-week-at-a-time path and have not gone back to full months like we had heard. Serves me right for believing something I read on Rumor Queen.

Anyhoo ... got my voice back just in time to scream ... AW CRAP!!

Akk!! I'm behind in my blogging!!
I have a miserable cold and have lost my voice! It really sucks to loose you voice because you can no longer do normal things like answer the phone, sing to the radio and yell - "honey, your show is on!" At work I answered the phone without thinking and I could barely croak out a hello - realizing that the caller could not see my sign language, I had to... ahem, "accidentally" hang up on him. So I have been gargling with salt water (um, yuk!!) and eating lemon and honey (yum) and hopefully my regular nasal high pitched voice will be back tomorrow.

In other news ... what the he!! happened to the all-of-September rumor???

Good news

I am so excited about the positive news posted on RQ!! It looks like the wait might actually speed up!! OMG! I have been preparing myself for a further slowdown but now who knows? Does anyone know if September 2005 was a big month for dossiers?? I heard that October is supposed to monsterous - so who knows how that's going to play out. I guess we are going to just have to wait and see ....

BTW ....Happy Thanksgiving to all my American bloggy friends!!!

More waiting

Thank you to everyone who left encouraging messages. You have no idea how helpful a few kind words can be. My guess was March/April for a referral and May(ish) for travel. I was starting to wonder if I was completly fooling myself. It seems from the responses I was about on target with other's thinking. Something about hitting the 12 month mark makes the wait seem much longer and more difficult. I guess with the holiday season drawing nearer I remember saying things like; next Christmas she'll be here or for Francis' next birthday she'll be here or for my birthday she'll be here , etc. I'm also hearing alot of; "isn't that kid here yet?" or "why is it taking so long?" and I am just so fed up of hearing myself say "nope, not yet".

In brighter news, my son lost his first tooth. He was so proud of himself! We had fun explaining all about the tooth fairy and today after school I brought him to the dollar store so he could spend his $2. Ahhh ... the joys of being a kid!

p.s. I'm trying to upload the toothless grin but Blogger Beta is having nothing of it. Blah!

waiting ...

Ok, I’ve been really bad about blogging lately. I think I ran out of stuff to say (those who know me stop laughing!!) I’ve been feeling very blah this week – I think it has something to do with all this rain we are getting. Yesterday on the news they were saying that in the past 11 days there has been only 3 hours of sunlight! Maybe that has something to do with it .
Ok so let me get some opinions from all of you … With a LID of November 7, 2005 – when should I expect to see a referral?? Any guesses / ideas / premonitions?? I'm tired of waiting!

Adoption Seminar

Yesterday I attended a seminar at the Montreal Children’s hospital called Adoption Attachment and Beyond. What an eye-opener. I don’t think I came out of the seminar with any more knowledge than when I went in. It goes to prove my theory – that most adoptive parents are incredibly well-read in the subject of adoption. I was actually speechless at some of the things they were saying regarding foster care and private adoption. One “specialist” actually bashed IA parents for “digging a tunnel to China” when there are children available here in Canada. OMG! I just wanted to scream from my seat at the top of the auditorium. The sad truth is that many of these so called specialists feel that people who want to go the IA route is only because they want a healthy baby with no strings attached – a perfect child. They don’t realize that the system is really the problem.

I for one really looked into my options before I chose to adopt internationally. To sum up my reason behind adopting from China is that I wanted a child. Believe it or not, it is the easier route. In private adoption you have to wait until a birth mom chooses your file … it could take forever. She could choose you and then change her mind along the way which I honestly couldn’t deal with. In foster care, there are many older children and almost all are special needs as they have most often been removed from their home. Then, if you commit to such a child, there is very little support and you risk loosing this child at anytime because more right are given to the bio mom than the child. The though of having a child go back to a bad situation is more than I could bear. I know that there are many people that go this route, and for them I have nothing but respect as I know that this is more than I could handle.

tea & dumplings and a big surprise!

Last night’s Insights to China class was quite the event!!

First, Karen (our adoption coach) and the teacher worked together to surprise Sandra (also from our adoption agency and in the class). The teacher came in a wrote some text on the board in Chinese characters and in Pinyin. As the class began, the teacher began to have us repeat some of the familiar words in the sentence such as China , leaving, she, date, 24 … and then she turned to Sandra who immediately got it that it was her travel date! It was so exciting and amazing to participate in such an amazing surprise! Congratulations Sandra!!

Then, as planned, the teacher proceeded to teach us how to make traditional Chinese dumplings. We all got to make about 3 dumplings each and we boiled them in water in an electric wok. Then we got to eat them which was the best part. Karen brought an amazing peanut sauce for dipping and we all had a feast. The recipe is quite easy, you buy the wrappers already made and the filling is: lean ground beef, minced onion, shredded carrot, shredded cabbage, soya sauce, vegetable oil and S&P. (There are many different types of fillings – she just chose this one to share with us) You put a teaspoon of the filling on the wrapper, wet all around the wrapper, pinch the opposite sides together, then pinch the sides in 3 pleats each (easier said than done – lol!) The trick is to seal it well so that the filling doesn’t come out during the boiling process. Boil or fry then serve! Yum!

After the dumplings, we got to partake in a traditional tea ceremony which was really fascinating! We learned about the different steps, the washing, the steeping, the pouring, the smelling. I really had a wonderful time!

12 months down!

So today marks 1 year since LID. 365 long days since our file has been logged in at the CCAA. What can I say? It certainly wasn't what I expected when I signed up for this adventure. So far it's been much more than what I hoped for.

I may not have reached my destination, but I'm enjoying the ride!

Things that make you go Hmmmm ….

I just realized that I haven’t posted in a few days. My bad! I have been very busy with the Referrals ‘n Trips site as I am doing my best to record all the new referrals and post some critical info about each one. So far I am noticing that the average age is a few months older this time. Can it be because of the slowdown? Who knows! There were no twins this round – last month there were 2 sets of twins proposed. There were no 6 month old referrals this time either. It seems that the most common provinces were Jiangxi, Hunan and Chongquing.

Stork Alert!!!

OMG! This is it. The CCAA has updated their site to say that files up to August 25th have been matched! Whoohoo! Finally we are seeing more days being matched as this reflects 16 days worth of referrals!! Congrats to Julie who is going to see Tess for the first time in the next few days! Also, congrats to Lisa and Eammon who are waiting to see Baby S for the first time! Such an exciting time!
I'll be posting all the new referrals on Referrals 'N Trips!
